The world has gone mad.
We are about to elect as our next president one of two unsuitable (in my opinion) persons. One candidate is a blustery, arrogant, and bombastic, albeit financially successful, businessman. He will seemingly say whatever comes to his mind, will deride (distastefully at times) his political opponents, and will even divide his current party affiliation. No matter. His unwavering supporters cheer him in throngs.
The other candidate has incontrovertibly lied to us. Not once, not twice, not even three times. Indeed, she has lied to us so many times it makes my head (and stomach) spin. She apparently has even perjured herself while testifying before Congress. Hmmm . . . such talent must run in the family. Yet, her supporters shrug. That’s because a lie is no longer a lie. Instead, it’s a misstatement.
We have police officers allegedly shooting unarmed men.
We have “protesters” acting as snipers, randomly killing police officers.
We have mass shootings – at schools, at courthouses, in public squares.
We are subject to random acts of terrorism, most of which are conducted in the name of religion.
We have a government that spends like a drunken sailor – teaching much of my fellow citizenry to do the same.
We are forced to allow men who claim to “identify as women” to use the restrooms and locker rooms of their choice. We are told not just to “tolerate” it, but to “celebrate” it.
We’ve had traditional marriage redefined for us by five unaccountable black-robed judges.
We are told to use euphemisms when discussing uncomfortable topics (see, e.g., “reproductive health care”).
We have a Church too fearful to stand up for Biblical absolutes.
We have sexual predators in church leadership positions.
We have pastors encouraging congregants to celebrate the slaughter of innocent victims.
We have pastors accused of wrongdoing and, instead of bravely sticking around to (supposedly) be exonerated, cutting and running, only to start another church in another town.
The list could go on. We live in a crazy, mixed-up, sin-sick world. I’m sorry to break it to you, but it’s my belief that it’s only going to get worse.
There is good news, however. News that gives me hope, and that should give all of my fellow Christians hope.
You see, over 2000 years ago, Jesus provided His disciples, and thus, by extension, all of His followers, including us, with the source of hope. He did so by first providing bad news. The bad news is that we will have trouble in this world. Not may, not possibly, not perhaps, but will have trouble.
He then went on to provide the good news. News in which we can take solace. News in which we can rest. News in which we can have hope. He told them, “But take heart! I have overcome the world.”1
In a world gone mad, that’s all we can do – take heart, knowing He has overcome the world.

Well said, as sad as it is. As Christians, however, we should not be surprised by any of this, as it was foretold in Scripture many times. We are truly living in “…the last days…” I pray our personal testimony will help others meet the One Who can (and already has) deliver us from this current whisper of a life.

Paul, Thank You! You wrote what I haven’t heard many people talk about. I was wondering where is the church? The ones that will stand up and follow the scripture. I have been so sad and disappointed. Reading this did give me hope that there is others following scripture and not the world. I will now take heart that Jesus is in control.
Touching on many sad points today Paul . I just don’t understand how “Love one another as I love You can be so confusing ? ” I do think Our Lord is about to intervene. In a Way that makes all aware that therev is one True Living God . It will be a Wonderful and Beautiful Day . Keep living as You You do . Full of Fun , Laughter and Love . It is contagious.

I too must take heart because I too see the same issues (and more, but you probably ran out of time/space and you made your point well). I hate being placed in the position of voting for the lesser of the two evils — or trying to decide which of the two is worse to vote against — everyone has an opinion about that — and that divides us even more. And by US I mean Christians specifically. We argue about the politics (and rightfully so at times) but fail miserably when it comes to getting the Good News out — making our testimonies of no account as we look like the rest of those arguing about the politics. And mostly because we argue from the standpoint of what does us the most good personally i.e., this one promises to cut my taxes, that one promises free this/that, this one will cut your mama’s Social Security benefits, that one will pay for your college, etc.
Hard not to do that in this day and age — getting sucked into the fray. We in the church argue about which sin is worse than another when it only takes ONE sin to separate us from God. It’s hard not to use that same logic when looking at political candidates — this one is advocating for more children to be chosen to be killed, that one uses the legal system to cheat people out of what they were otherwise legally owed — which is the worse sin? Which is more “fit” for office?
Well, all I can do is pray, try to set an example (although I often fail) and continue to seek His will and His way. I’m reminded of God’s admonition in 2 Chronicles 7:14, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” We need a lot of land healing!
As the enemy closes in on the church and it becomes more difficult to worship as we so chose I must ask this question to all who believe … If being a Christian becomes illegal, would there be enough evidence to convict you? (I step on my own toes here.)
